Cinnamon-Apple Walnut Torte

This is the 9th recipe that we at The Home Bakers are baking. This recipe was selected by Jasline from Food Is My Life and only the host of the bake can state the original recipe selected from the recipe book Coffee Cakes by Lou Seibert Pappas. Myself and the other members all thought this recipe would be like a cake (no picture in the book) but we all soon found out it was more like a crumble rather than a cake. Upon reading everyone’s comments and how they went with the bake I knew not to expect a cake so that I wouldn’t be too disappointed.

I liked the way Kit from I Lost in Austen presented her bake so I sliced my apples too instead of dicing them but I layered the apples first and then poured the batter over the top thinking that the batter would be quite liquidy – quite the contrary.

I followed the original recipe but the only change I made was that I added dried shredded coconuts and extra cranberries to the topping along with the nuts .

We were invited to a friend’s place for dinner so I took this dish as a dessert for the host, along with instant custard (yes I was lazy to make my own) and they really loved it. I found it a bit sweet for my liking so next time I would cut back on the sugar.

Everyone loved the juicy apples and the crunchy fruit and nut topping but I think next time I will serve it with ice cream. As there was not much flour in the recipe the ‘torte’ crumbled to pieces as soon as it was dished out. I was not able to get a full wedge like some of the other ladies did and it was not the prettiest of ‘torte’ but it was hearty and delicious. Lovely served warm on a cold autumn afternoon or as a dessert.

That’s right, I said next time. So this recipe is a keeper in my household and I was told by my friend to definitely make it again the next time we are invited over for dinner (hmmmmm……maybe there were just being polite) πŸ˜‰
