About

Hi and welcome!

I decided to start this blog as family and friends keep asking me for the recipes when I share with them photos of my cupcakes and baked treats. Special thanks to a friend who suggested I start a blog and seeing as I have family and friends all over the world I thought this would be a great way to share it with them and with you too if you are interested.

So who is the Charmed Cupcake?

People call me Angela, Ange or Angie  - whatever suits their personality.

I am a hobby baker.

I am a girl who loves all things cupcake, baked treats, vintage, arts and craft, good food, coffee, wine, the finer things in life, travelling and just about anything cute & pretty. And when I am not working, baking or day dreaming of owning a cupcake store you can find me travelling somewhere in this beautiful world.

I grew up with my mother always baking. She would come across new recipes all the time and would be trying them out almost every weekend so needless to say my brother and I would always be her guinea pigs taste testing and indulging in her delicious baked goodies.

It has only been in the last couple of years or so that I have become obsessed with cupcakes – baking, decorating, icing, eating – all things cupcakes really. I guess this all came about when I started to crave for cupcakes.

You see I live in Linz, a beautiful small city in Austria situated on the Danube halfway between Vienna and Salzburg. In 2007 I moved from Perth, Western Australia and have been living in Linz since then. Linz has many things to offer but one thing they don’t sell is cupcakes!

*Shock* *horror* I know!

So one can’t just stop by a bakery and buy a selection of cupcakes as there is non, one has to bake if one wants to eat cupcakes. That’s where I step in.

UPDATE as of 25 February 2013: A cupcake store has now opened up in Linz.

My cupcake love story

My love for cupcakes all started when I was maybe 10 years old. I had bought a children’s baking book and the first thing I wanted to try was vanilla cupcakes – what else. The book was great, with step-by-step instructions and real life photos so I diligently followed each step to even creaming the butter and sugar by hand with a wooden spoon (my mother did tell me to use the mixer, but I was stubborn enough to not take her advice). The cupcakes turned out beautiful and delicious and it just so happened a family friend had stopped by so she took some home to her son – a teenage boy who I had a huge crush on. Needless to say he loved the cupcakes and that is how my love for cupcakes all started.

So welcome to my blog, feel free to browse around and leave me any questions or comments you might have, I would love to hear from you.

  1. Hello lovely Ange! I can’t believe that it’s taken me this long to find your blog… it’s gorgeous, I absolutely adore cupcakes so this is kinda a ‘cupcake mecca’ for me!! Aw, I live in Perth so it’s kinda nice to meet another sandgroper, even though you’re living in Austria now. Little old Perth is pretty much the same as when you left it in 2007… there are a few more weird art pieces (a ‘green cactus’, a purple and yellow pineapple-type thing near the new Perth Arena, um… a bin shaped like a piece of cake) and small Melbourne-ish bars are popping up around the place (yay!). The premier and town planners are also planning another development called ‘Elizabeth Quay’. Google it, it’s a little controversial! Anyway, so lovely to find your little patch of the internet. Linz sounds like a lovely place… I think they’re lucky to have you there! Sending you a West Aussie hug. Following you from now on! xx

    • Hi Laura,
So sorry for the late reply as it’s been so hectic at my end lately I haven’t even had a chance to blog much.
I too can’t believe I never came across your blog as you site is wonderful, I love your photography!! The last time I was back in Perth was in 2011 and I seriously can not believe how much Perth has changed since I left. There are more people and yes definitely more small Melbourne-ish bars – I love it!
I bet Perth has changed even more since then and I can’t wait to see it when I am back later this year. Yes that’s right I will be back – FINALLY !! for a short visit :-D
It’s lovely to meet a fellow Aussie blogger and I always look forward to reading your posts.
      xoxo
      Ange

  13. I think you’re very creative and have a lovely blog. Your mention of the children’s baking book reminded me of one that I used to have with very simple steps and illustrations, and I loved it.
